The Guardian

CA$1,250.00

Signed original acrylic painting on 30x40” (1.5” deep) gallery wrapped canvas.

Every fall I head out to the woods and hunt for Chanterelles. I have a few “secret” spots that always provide me with a massive haul of mushrooms. In the fall of 2020 while I was in the middle of an epic mushroom hunt with my family, we spotted this Pacific Chorus Frog nestled under the ferns. It sat calmly and stared at me as I stared back in awe. I took some photos and then continued on my way.

I returned home and did a small paint study of the frog in my studio. I thought the lighting was perfect for a large scale piece, so I got to work on this 30x40” painting. It took me a couple of weeks to complete the painting and then I stood back and had a realization! This tiny little treefrog was looking strong and powerful, almost like a guardian of his domain. He is the guardian of the secret Chanterelle hunting ground.
